The Cooling System in a Data Center facility is critical in order to ensure proper operation and performance. For this reason, ‘PSH Clima Solution’ believes that the use of refrigerants such as R134a or CO2, which are harmless to electric equipment, is very suitable in order to dissipate the heat generated in the Data Center.
The main features of the Cooling System of a Data Center are:
■ It is the biggest of ‘non useful’ energy so the biggest Money expenditure.
■ Its design is limited by the heat load of each rack:
– 5 kW/rack in standard solutions
– 10 kW/rack with enclosure
■ Solutions using water increase the risk for the security and integrity of the equipment
■ Trend of increasing the density of the racks due to the Blade Servers
The refrigerant absorbs the heat expelled by the rack, evaporating itself in the Indoor Unit. All this energy is transported through the refrigerant pipes until the heat is expelled by an Outdoor Unit. In that unit vapor turns into liquid and the refrigerant completes the cycle by going back to the indoor unit.

■ Manifold and piping for standard pressure, cost effective.
■ In huge systems (more than 200kW) split the system into subsystems (eg. 100 + 100kW).

■ High pressure manifold and piping with small sizes (Ø 32mm pipe for 200kW)
■ Heat recovery heating water up 70ºC (158ºF)
■ Natural refrigerant, change- standard-proof.
